My kitty Tuxedo has FLUTD. I'v had him home for a few days now, recovering from it.

It takes Tuxedo 2 or more trips to the catboxes to empty his bladder. One of the trips he'll make he will pee a clump and other times he pees smaller ones. I did call the vet to ask him about it! He said It should be getting better. I just was wondering if someone knew how long will I see it getting better?
Tuxedo is doing great with his diet food and he is very happy to be home, playing with his buddy.

From what I understand, the main cause of FLUTD is crystals that form in the bladder, block the urethral tubes and cause difficulty peeing. If Tux is on medication to dissolve the crystals, it makes sense that it would take a certain amount of time for the medication to work. If he's still having trouble, depending on how long he's been on medicatio/special diet, you may want to ask your vet just how long they expect Tux to have difficult peeing and when you, yourself can expect to see positive results from him. There is a surgery called Perineal Urethrostomy where they basically shorten the penis and open up the urethral tubes to prevet crystals from forming, but I've heard this is a serious surgery and they only do this as a last result when all other avenues have been exhausted. I'm sure there are Catster kitties who can share their experiences with FLUTD with you. I hope Tux feels better really fast. I know you love him very much and you share the feeling!

I know with my big boy who has chronic idiopathic cystis after each flare-up he is very hesitant eo go back into the toilet or even going to pee period.I think it has to do with the fact that peeing has been sooo painful that they try to avoid it as much as possible(which exaclt the wrong thing) and the place (the litter box)holds painfull memories. It seems to take them a while til the memories fade into the background. My vet approves forcing additional water into him with a syringe(no needle) to drink more.I do this 2-3 times a day nomore than 2 OZ each time.It also helps with flushing any remaing crystals out if there are any. Please ask your vet if thats ok before you might want to try it.There are different type of crystals after all and what might be ok for one might not be good for others.

This can be a life-threatening issue if the cat becomes unable to urinate.

PLEASE see info by vet Lisa A. Pierson at catinfo.org ASAP. Understand the causes of FLUTD, what you can do about it and how to prevent it in future. Also info on the connection to pain causing stress causing worse problem.

I received bad advice from our own vet when Lily had urinary problems. The Rx diet prescribed was bad for her too. Now I know why.
