my female cat keeps attacking my male kitten. How can i stop it?

She was fine the first day we introducd them but now she's being really mean to him and chases him into the corner. She was a foundling and he was the kitten of a stray. My other older cat is perfectly fine with the new kitten. He's happy to have someone to play with. But the female doesn't exactly know how to play. So I think she might be wanting to play but doesn't know how. Or she hates the fact that we got a new cat, she wasn't too happy when we first brought her home and she discovered the older male. We think she might be an only cat based on my mom's experiance with only cat females.

Well, cats are't normally "pack" animals like dogs are, but that doesn't mean everyone should only have one cat. If you just turned the baby loose when you brought him home, the shock may have been too much for the female. It's hard to keep a kitten isolated in a room, but you may have to find a way. Is she truly "attacking" the kitten? Sometimes when cats play it looks serious but isn't. Usually, older cats will "correct" the youngsters. When a female has kittens, the male is gone. She is responsible for disciplining the babies. This may be what your female is doing. If the kitten gets out of line, she's telling him "no". Now, if she chases the baby down, backs him into a corner and goes for his throat, you have a right to be concerned. She can be put in "time out" with a firm "no!" and her visits with Baby should be superivsed. Also, if she is not spayed, she needs to be. All your cats need to be fixed if they're not. You can teach them both how to play by joining in with cat toys.
