If your cat outright attacks other cats, I'd hato say it's best he remain an only cat. You'd be miserable trying to convince him to chance his mind, and to try to separate fighting cats could cause serious injury to everyone. The best idea is for you to go to a reputable shelter in your area. If the staff is not friendly/helpful or the shelter looks dirty, run, don't walk, out and find another. They will ask you a lot of questions about your resident cat, your lifestyle, your experience with cats, and even your philosophies on being an animal owner. Don't be insulted by the "prying". They know their cats and are trying to make the best match. They may not suggest a kitten but a juvenile cat. They should be available to work with you and answer your questions once you get home on how to intro the cats. Some shelters even have home visits by their staff to help out. And they should have a liberal return policy if it doesn't work out. Go to www.petfinder.com to check out shelters.
