Panthro

my cat says: ' just feed me, clean up my box, & leave me alone!'

I think that me and my first cat Panthro, are growing apart.

It's just been me and him, and he'll be 2 on christmas day and in October I got him (and me) a companion, a 5 month old boy,
Dovecki. (they are both neutered Devon Rexes)

When I first brought Dovey home, Pan was VERY aggressive, I felt bad for the little one. Pan was dominant and ruled the house as elder and we were still very close. and now over these 2 months, the cats are best buds, but Panthro now gives me 'the paw' when I try to rub, hold, or play with him.

Dovey is very lovey! always in my lap purring. Panthro was NEVER like this, so it's a real pleasure.

I try to even out the attention, really I do. Hard when Pan just sits and looks on.

Panthro used to be super engaging, a thundercat! Now he's a watchful, quiet tomcat.

ANY OF YOU BEEN THROUGH THIS?

Is this him still working out the change?
Is he jealous?
Or bitter?
can I expect a change, or how can I make it change?

please help me out feline lovers!

This happened to me when I first got a dog. My cat, Puppy, was upset. She just hid downstairs, and I felt guilty. I would try giving extra treats, and play with string. If the cat doesn't want touched, perhaps lure it with some catnip mice.

You have become the "third cat"
I was once told that sometimes owning cats in odd numbers can be horrible because one cat will be left out pretty badly and its life will be made hell. This is where the term catty comes from. Some might say this theory is nuts but it sounds pretty accurate to me! Since you only have two cats apparently Pan thinks of you as another cat. Pan was the alpha cat and you weren't before you got Dovey. You should reestablish your role as momma cat. Do things mother cats do.

it's true they became jealous, your cat thinks the new one is your favorite. Your cat is out casting himself and this is possible to animals specially they are both male. Male characteristics are superior in the animal kingdom so when you got the new one he felt that his throne was replaced. I think you should treat them equally or if you feel that only one cat (Panthro) is acting strange treat him special it will help him not to feel jealous :)
