My cat likes to bite my clothes and carry them around the house. How do I make her stop?

My cat is about 1 1/2 and loves to bite my clothes. She first started biting the clothes while they were drying on the drying rack. Now she has progressed to biting clothes that are anywhere. She will pull them out of my laundry basket and drag them around the house. I'm rarely able to catch her in the act so it is hard to discipline her. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this destructive behavior?

The obvious answer is to put your clothing in a covered hamper with a lid she cannot open, or to put the basket in a closet or room and shut the door. Lizzie also does this. I find dishtowels and my hubby's socks all over. This is natural behavior and w/o destroying her spirit, I doubt if you can discipline it out of her. Is she chewing up the clothing? That's another issue as she can cause herself an intestinal obstruction. Make sure she has plenty of diversions, including scratchy boxes (preferably the ones made out of corrugated cardboard which feel nothing like carpeting, furniture or clothing), safe toys to play with, and most importantly, playtimes and attention from you. I know that it's difficult, after a long day at work, to spend more time playing with your kitty, but it may be what she needs to stop what could be an attention-seeking behavior.
