my cat is starting to become aggressive towards my husband and i when she sees a stray cat outside. She has biten us
My cat is attacking either my husband or me by biting us after viewing a stray cat when looking out the window at night. Last night she came running at my husband and bit him, and when i yelled at her and got the water bottle to spray her she tried to attack me also. she has done this 3 times recently. she is almost 2 years old and is the sweetest cat ever and has never been violent. She is a very playful cat and just loves everyone, not afraid of anything or anyone. She has been spayed.

Whenever there is a sudden change in behavior, we always recommend a visit or at least a phone call to the vet. If your cat hasn't been in a while, it might be a good idea to take her in just for peace of mind. However, your cat is reacting to the stray with what's called misplaced aggression. If you had another cat, this one would probably attack it as well. It can't get to the stray, so it's attacking whatever is around. When you see your cat at the window and she starts hissing, growling, or as my Izzie does, yodeling, try to get outside immediately and chase the cat away. Without hurting it, try to convince it that it's not welcome. You may even want to call your local animal control and borrow a humane trap. Try not to react to your cat's stress with stress of your own. Yelling at and spraying her only ups the stress level for what, to her, is just protecting her territory. And, when you are bitten, make sure to wash the bite or scratches immediately and apply antibiotic salve.
