I know what it's like to have an overly shy cat. If you recently got him, it's best just to let him get used to his surroundings and the people around him, he'll warm up. Just like my cat who was new, she always used to hide under beds, but now, she is incredibly comfortable. Time is a big part in having your cat get comfortable. Hope that helps!

i tried to make visitors more attractive - for ishtar of course... i asked them to let treats fall down (accidentally) near their seats to make my greedy furnose curious. i begged them to leave it up to ishtar if she wants contact or not - which includes eye contact. (staring at the cat is forbidden...) i tried to create a calm atmosphere when we have guests - which means that everything noisy or hectical (incl. playful kids) needn't happen at ishtar's home. today my girl feels safe at home and is curious about people's intentions. she stopped running and hiding but she'll never let anyone pet her she knows shorter than months. and i agree with her - she's a cat not the door knob. so why touch her? and of course i introduce my guests to our point of view.

Some cats are just more shy than others. Oscar J. tolerates people in his house, but he doesn't really greet them or want to be petted. Our friends have a beautiful Tortie that runs for the hills any time someone comes in their home. Her favorite hiding place is the top of their closet. Introducing new people will probably help, but I think a lot of it has to do with personality.

Just like my cat... Just try to play with it. And other things like that.. I did that and it work... But my cat still scared outdoors (and lazy)
