Is is flaky and scaly? If so, there's a good chance it's ringworm. You need to take the cat to the vet for a firm diagnosis. Also, if you have other cats, this one will need to be separated if it is ringworm because it's HIGHLY contagious. It's not terrible; it's not life-threatening, but it is a pain in the ass. It's also contagious to humans, so be aware that you could get it too.
