My cat, for no reason became very aggressive when I came in from outside carrying a box. This went on for some time and scares me with her hissing and growl. This happened again while carrying a small carpet in the room. I love this cat so much, I give her attention and love, my bf yells at her all the time and uses a squirt gun to control her from jumping on furniture etc.

Unless you put the whoa on your boyfriend and tell him to control his anger with your cat, this situation will continue to escalate on both sides. When you aren't around, he may even begin to strike her. Your cat is becoming very stressed out by this situation. Some people feel that animals must be physically disciplined and that is how you train them. I've never used a spray bottle on nor struck any of my animals and none of them are out of control. Because it's in their nature to want to be up "high", it's very difficult to train a cat to stay off the furniure, etc. and your BF is going about it the wrong way. It would be like forcing him to wear his shoes on the wrong feet and throwing a bucket of water on him when he didn't. If the two of you marry and have children, he may feel the best way to discipline them is by yelling and "other means" as well. Have a serious talk with him about cat behavior. Perhaps he should try playing with her to distract her rather than disciplining her.
