my 6 yr old neutered male cat attacks my other cats- he gets them from behind and goes for the back of their necks and

literally gets a death grip on them locking his jaw onto them - he has done this since he was little. i have 3 other cats a 12 yr old male (neutered) a 6 yr old female (spayed) and a 41/2 yr old male (neutered)the female was our first cat, the attacker our second then the 12 yr old and 41/2 yr old came to us 4 yrs ago - it seems like it's getting worse- he was a feral kitten only about 3 weeks old when we found him

It sounds like your cat is a package of a bunch of behaviors; extreme alpha tendencies, extremely territorial, feral tendencies, and perhaps learned behavior that has been tolerated for almost 6 years. Even if you got a cat who's a bigger bully than this one, he wouldn't learn his lesson. It would literally be a fight to the death. Some cats do not enjoy living with other cats. Have you seen strays in your yard? This could be misplaced aggression. He wants to attack the outside cats but uses your other cats as a substitute. Speak with your vet about a short course of cat anti-depressents and some behavioral counselling. You can also try a plug-in pheromone called "Feli-way" but I've used it with mixed-results. When you see him about to attack, either remove him or the other cats if you can. He is reacting viscerally and I doubt if anything short of distracting and/or removing him from the area would help.
