I can't find any information that says a dog (or a human) can catch a URI from a cat, but cats can pass it to each other. If your cats are suffering with kitty colds, your best bet is to call your vet. The cold will usually go away on it's own, but there are secondary infections a cat can get with a URI and the antibiotics your vet will give you work to cure these infections. The most serious symptom is not eating since if a cat can't smell it's food, it won't eat.

There are lung ailments which are transmittable between families (canines, felines, primates, etc.), but I don't think rhinovirus (common cold) is one of them. I think, like fleas and mites, each family has its own type.

Go to your vet and get your cats' URIs treated. There are different kinds of URIs, and treatments will vary. And now, on a very odd note, the only time Spike and Pookie had colds, I had one, too. I'm sure there was no connection, but we were all huddled up in bed together with sneezes.
