My 12yr.old female ragdoll cat weighs 7lbs. She plays with her toys when she feels like it... she eats as usual though she has never been a big eater... everything seems OK. Is her weight normal?

Izadore (Izzie)

I have 2 cats who have been identified as Maine Coon mixes. One, Izzie, weighs about 17 lbs. The other, Lizzie, weighs about 7 lbs. When Iz was a kitten, I asked the vet how big he would get. She answered, "As big as he wants." If your baby is vetted regularly, up to date on all vaccinations and tests, seems "normal" to you personality-wise, eats, uses her box, doesn't hide and isn't overly lethargic, I'd say she's perfectly normal. As she ages, you'll want to keep in contact with your vet and don't miss the yearly exams. Any changes in behavior should be checked out immediately. In "human years", your cat is 84 years old, and like all senior citizens, she'll need more care as time goes on.

This seems a bit small to me. I've always read that mature female Ragdolls should weigh between 10-15 pounds. I'm a Ragdoll & my weight generally stays between 11 1/2 & 12 1/2 pounds. I got sick once & I got down to 10.2 pounds & I looked horrible. I was getting too thin. I think you should talk to your vet about this & see what they say.
