Leaving home for 6 months. Should I take the cats with me or leave them with my house sitter?
I have to work out of town for 6 months. I have a friend who is going to be staying at my house while I am away. I have two cats ages 13 and 8. Do you think it is better for the cats to make the 15 hour move with me or leave them at home. I know I will miss them like crazy. I just want to do what is best for them.

Since your cats are on the elderly side and your move is temporary, it might be best to leave them in their familiar environment. Of course, this is ONLY if your housesitter is fond of cats and will give them the very best care. They need to not only be fed and monitored for illness or injury, but they need to be played with and LOVED too, especially since their beloved human will be away.
I would discuss the matter with your friend, and get her opinion. Find out how much time she is willing and able to devote to your cats each day and make your decision from there. If you do choose to leave them while you are away, make sure your friend has everything she needs to properly care for them - a supply of food, any medications they need, the phone number of their vet - just as you would do when leaving a human child for a period of time.
