Is lactose-free milk OK for cats?

I heard around Catster that cats are lactose intolerant, so is it OK if Momma give me lactose free milk?

Hey Tibs;

My mom feeds me Lactaid, a lactose free milk because she is intolerant too! I just love it! And I have not thrown up or had weird poops! I get the skim kind because I was told I have to watch my weight. :(

Hope this helps!

Most cats are lactose intolerant. And trying out might not be the best idea...

I drink special cat-milk from the pet shop which is lactose-reduced and has lactose-derivates added. Trying out lactose-free milk for humans should be a possible alternative. Besides allergies which can (but not necessarily must) be caused by soja-based products.

Not all cats are lactose-intolerant, but if you don't know for sure then don't try to see. If your cat accidentally eats a piece of cheese or something, then you'll know for sure. But until then, you can buy Cat-sip milk or similar milk for cats at a pet store or human Lactaid (lactose-reduced or lactose-free milk).
