It is true that a cat is more likely to pick up diseases and parasites when they are outdoors. They are also more likely to be attacked by a predator, or to run away. It doesn't matter if you "watch" him as he roams. Your cat is faster than you, and any other predatory animals are faster than you too. If something sudden happens and your cat is attacked or chooses to bolt away, you won't be able to stop it.

The best way to keep your cat safe is to keep him indoors, or outside in an enclosed area such as a screened porch or patio.

I was an indoor cat and one day the back door was left open and I got out. My human mom came out to round me and the other escapees back inside and I was the last one still out. She was about 10ft from me "watching" when a garbage truck drove past and scared me to death and I took off running like a bolt of lighting, quickly flying under a gate that hardly slowed me down but took her so long to open that she completely lost sight of me or even which direction I had headed. My family spent months going door to door, setting traps (and catching lots of raccoons!) and responding to dozens of sightings of look alike orange and white cats, with just hours upon hours of sobbing in between.

They never found me, and have no idea if I'm dead, alive but living as a feral cat, or maybe taken in by a neighbor who didn't see a flier and renamed me Pete. Ignoring all the risks of creepy crawlies, we wouldn't wish that kind of trauma on anyone. If a cat can be indoor only, please keep them indoors!

Ragdolls are. Called. Ragdolls because they are docile by nature. In fact they are docile they arnt recommended. For family's. With young children because they tend not to stick up for themselves and end up with broken bones or worst. If you are set on a ragdoll and want to take your expensive. Kitty outside be sure she's up to date on vaccines and worm checks. Keep her on a lead using a cat harness on her at all times during her excursions. Fleas are a risk factor that you can't imagine until you get infested. But they jump through screens too. That's another forum. Lol

You should never let a Ragdoll outside period. They don't have it in their nature to fight. If a huge dog or any other threat comes up to them looking for trouble, a Ragdoll won't defend itself. Also letting your cat outside does make them more likely to get a disease. Keep your cat indoors at all times.
