I forgot to mention that I leave dry food for him out at night, because he stays by himself in the basement (only at night because the wife is afraid of cats. As long as he is watched by me, they co-mingle.) I think he might eat that dry food for comfort (lonely), and then is full which might be the reason he just laps up the gravy.

My Mamma and Poppa feed me raw meat and grain-free wet food. I used to eat dry food but I heard they say it was really bad because of all the grain. We cats are obligate carnivores, which means grain (rice, wheat, corn...) has no place in our diet. It goes right through our digestive tract and all we do is poop it out. Also, dry food is exactly that - dry, so it's not providing cats with enough water, even is you get a clean bowl of water daily. Not getting enough water can lead to kidney problems. My Mamma feeds me a few small meals in the morning, and at night. I wake them up in the morning when I'm hungry. No need to leave dry food out. Dry food is baaaad.
