I needed to put my cat in his bag for several hours; days later, it is taking him a long time to warm back up to me.
Had to be in bag for several hours during an apartment move.

Ok, I am reading this to mean that you have moved. I would think that it is the move and unfamiliar surroundings that are freaking him out and not the hours spent in his carrier at all. I would be sure that all of his familiar things are available and easy to find, such as litterbox, food & water dishes and beds, scratching posts, etc and then just give him some time. Speak calmly to him. Pet him and cuddle him when you can but give him time to adjust to his new surroundings and then he will forgive you.

As usual, Allie gives excellent advice. We just moved with our 2 kitties and they acted the same way. Izzie would sit on the kitchen island and glare at me and Delilah just hid. As Allie said, it's probably more due to the move than being in his carrier, althoug being in one for "several hours" probably wasn't too pleasant. Hopefully he was "sprung" to potty and eat. In any case, I tried to keep our routines as normal as possible despite the fact that humans and animals alike were a bit overwhelmed by the move. Mealtimes, bedtimes and "getting up" times were all normal as were our evening activities. Except for trying to figure out what box things were in, our lives for the past few months have been pretty darned boring! But it helped to acclimate our animals to the new digs. Give him time--more than a few days. Keep your routine as normal as you can, give him his special treats, grooming and playtimes. He'll forgive you, don't worry!
