It's COMPLETELY normal- he's a stranger in a new place. You need to give him time, space, food, water and litter. As long as he knows where all of these things are, leave him alone to explore and become acclimated. Do not try to pick him up unless he asks, or you will be bit and/or scratched. Ensure there are toys, scratching posts and a cat condo for him to sleep in when you are not home. When he allows you to be near him, give him a SmartBite treat for positive reinforcement. The problem with rescuing is that we do not know the hardships that our animals have endured before we adopted them. THANK YOU for saving a feline's life... be patient and you will be rewarded with a life-long companion. ^_^
