I cannot get one of my cats to come home if I let him out. his excessively meowing to go out.

I cannot get my cat to come home if I let him out. He excessively meows at night to go out but if I let him out he could be gone for days and then only comes back for food. I think he is being fed elsewhere and I am trying to keep him in now for a while but he is driving me mad as we cannot sleep.

If your cat is not neutered, he has much more important things on his mind that coming home. Unfortunately, once a cat gets a taste of the big outdoors, it's almost impossible to convince him he's better off inside four walls. As I've often said, Lily Rose clawed and chewed through our windowscreens to get back out and Ernie bolted out any door opened for a few seconds. Both died outside far too young. Now that your cat has established himself as a "outdoor" cat, there is truly little you can do except buy earplugs and ignore him. Be a responsible owner and if he is NOT "fixed" do so asap. Don't let him add to the out-of-control unwanted kitten population. Have him vetted and vaccinated and flea-proofed. Apologize in advance to your neighbors if he using their flowerbeds as a litter box. Have him micro-chipped or put a breakaway collar on him as identification should he be injured or killed and wind up at a vets or shelter. Try to keep him in at night if you can. Good luck.Hope He's OK
