One of the ways a cat will let you know he/she is no threat to you and feels you are no threat to them is by blinking, not staring directly into your eyes and looking away--usually down and to the left. Animal "love" is not quite the same as human love, although if an animal feels safe around a person and enjoys their company, they will show it by not hiding when that person is around, maybe sitting on their laps, etc. Izzie does this. He also follows me around. There is no absolutely certain way to know what our cat's opinions are of us and sometimes maybe that's a good thing. But if we do our best to make the cat's life safe and happy, keep them healthy by taking them to a vet, have them spayed or neutered, protect them from not-so-nice people, show them as much affection as they'll tolerate, keep their boxes clean and their bowls filled with good food, we can be confident that even if they don't meet us at the door with hugs and kisses, we are important to them,
