How do I get my 6 month kitten to stop hissing and attacking my new 13 week kitten? ?
I just got a new 13 week kitten as a playmate to my 6 month kitten since my 12 year old does not like to play that much anymore. Unfortunately the new kitten is extremely shy and hides all the time and the 6 month old hisses whenever she smells her and tries to attack her when she sees her. We don't know how to help them get along better and make the new one more cofident so she doesn't want to hide all the time.

By hiding, the younger kitten may be telling you she needs to be separated from the older one for a while. I've been lucky that whenever I've added a cat to the population here, they've gotten along. But I think you need to set up the baby in a room by herself with frequent visits and cuddles from you, with a box, food and someplace she can retreat when she feels scared. Let the older kitten check out the closed door. A few times a day, take the baby out of the room and put the older one in there. The older kitten is trying to let the younger one know who's the boss, but the younger one is intimidated and scared. Socialization for the younger one is the key here. You need to build up her confidence with gentle playtimes, kind words, love and patience. Don't ignore the older one and give her, separately, the same thing. You need to start over with the intros and it should work. It may take a while since they got off to a bad start, but be patient!
