How can I help my cat regain bladder control after a tail pull injury?

My siamese, about 7 years old, escaped and jumped the fence April '09. He returned the next day. His tail was limp and he peed uncontrollably. Xrays showed tail damage, likely pulled, which affected nerves that control his bladder (he poops fine). Vet said to wait to see how it healed. After 2 months, he could feel 1/2 of his tail and can lift it slightly, but still has no pee control. The only treatment I came across to help him was accupuncture. A local vet has given him 7 treatments. They only helped slightly. I have to keep him confined because he cannot control his pee so he has been confined for 4 months now. Otherwise, he is healthy. He is a total sweetheart and has been tolerant of being kenneled (4x4x6 with perches so he has room to move), but he is not getting much exercise and is wanting to come out to socialize. Does anyone know if he has a chance of further recovery? Is there any other treatments or meds I can give him to help (including supplements) to help him recover?

You may want to ask your vet if there is a veterinary specialty or referral clinic in your area. These people are board certified vets who specialize, like human physicians. It sounds like you may need a consultation with a veterinary urologist or neurologist. Many major colleges also have veterinary schools who may be able to help. Good luck!
