Heart beating fast, not hot outside, why??

My cat's heart's beating really fast. Yesterday his chest was rising and falling quickly but that has gradually stopped but the beat of his heart hasn't changed. He has been eating a bit & otherwise just lays down. My mum has took him to the vets and she said just wet him a bit to keep his temperature down which was yesterday at 42°. I'm just worried about him !
Can someone give me advice or help?
Thanks

Cat heartbeats are much faster than human ones- listen to a kitten breathe when frisky to see. Make sure he has plenty of water... add an extra water bowl, and perhaps a low-noise fountain. He might have a little bit of a kitty cold. If you think it's turning into something more, the vet can prescribe some clavamox in case he has a bug. ^_^
