I'm not sure what this is about, but a 'friendly' trap/cage is called a "have-a-heart" trap or a "drop trap". The cat you are trying to trap goes into the trap and steps on a special tripping mechanism in the bottom. This releases the door which closes before the cat can get out. I'm sure there are photos of them on the Internet if you google "have-a-heart" or "drop trap". Many shelters and rescues have them and might let you borrow one. I got one from our local animal warden through our police department.
