Cat sitting with his mouth open?

Sometimes my cat just sits there with his mouth wide open and stares at us. Sometimes after he does that he'll yawn, and sometimes he'll just lick his lips and go on like nothing happened. He's been doing this for a few years now, we usually notice it a few times a week. Is he just having to yawn and not doing it right away? Any idea why he does this?

It doesn't sound like anything serious, but you can ask your vet about it at your next appointment. Dogs do this more than cats when they need more air. Cut down on scented household products like air sprays, dryer beads, perfumey smells etc. to see if that makes a difference because s/he could have allergies. ^_^
