can being away from our cats for two weeks psycologically damage our cats?

we went to florida for two weeks, but we had my niece looking in on our two cats. their fairly young and this is our first trip away. they we very exciting to see us and were following us around which i expected but the first night our girl cat was up all night almost meowing at us. i have noticed the hair on the outside edge on her ears is gone and her leg hair seemed slightly matted like she has not been baithing herself enough. is it possible they just completely freaked out while we were gone? i dont know if i should be worried about her ears or not, but their bith acting fine now and slept fine last night as far as we know. we have not yet seen a vet, i want to ask some quetions first
