Any altern. to Prescription Diet ID? I have 2 cats, both overweight, 1/intestinal prob. Free feeding dry & 1/8th can ea
Prescription ID is very expensive & probably not good for the other cat. They have been on this diet for 4 yrs. Is there a food that is good for both & will help them to loose weight?

In all honesty I believe that dry food contributes to feline obesity - it's just nothing like their natural diet. I don't go for expensive foods and have a cat that survived bladder stones - Fancy Feast wet food - 3 oz for breakfast and 3 oz for dinner - that's it - 22 pound cat is down to 17 pounds has significant increase in activity, dandruff is gone and by his vet's account a healthy cat. Get your kitty off the dry.

I free feed dry myself but it really is not a good idea for overweight cats to be free fed. But the cat with intestinal problems really does need to stay on whatever food your vet recommended and the food won't hurt the other cat. I would ask your vet to recommend the amount that is right for each cat's frame and then cut the food back to the right portion. Calories vary based on the food and what is right for each cat's individual proper weight so the vet is the best source for that. But I personally do not like Science Diet or Hill's food because they are awfully pricey considering that they contain by products and lots of grains. I choose Royal Canin over Hill's but that is also expensive. Because one cat does have a health issue, I would not feel comfortable telling you what I think your cat could eat, only that they should not be free fed.

I personally would try Blue Buffalo Spa Select Weight Control. Blue Buffalo goes on sale a lot at Petsmart. Blue also has a sensitive stomach formula. It's all natural food and even though it's a few dollars more than the average 5 dollar bag of cat food you feed your cats less of Blue because of the amount of nutrients it has in it.
On the bag it says you can mix it with water (the dry food) but, I would only do that if you give your cats small portions throughout the day because if you leave that out it'll breed bacteria. Which is obviously not good. (:
Take care and good luck with your kitties!
