My cat has been breathing heavily through her nose... she also starts to have extreme cough attacks.
For about 3 weeks she has been breathing very heavily through her nose and almost sounds congested. And about like 4-5 times a day has these extreme cough attacks. These coughs sound like she has to cough up a hairbal... which she has done a lot in the past... but now nothing comes out and she sits there and coughs ( what looks painfully) for about 10-45 seconds. She is over weight... always has been. Her eating habits and bathroom habits haven't changed.

Please understand that we aren't vets here, just cat lovers and the only thing we can do without seeing your cat is give you our best guess. If your cat has been suffering like this for 3 weeks and now is getting worse, she must see a vet. Vets are aware that times are tough now, but I've never heard of one who will refuse to treat a sick cat and most will work with you on payments. It really sounds like your kitty may have developed heart problems if she is overweight. Please contact your vet as soon as you can. Hope she feels better fast!
