2 year old neutered male persian is peeing and pooping on our leather couch. But is also using the litterbox!!
For a couple months now we've been trying to figure out why and just when we think he's stopped, he'll do it again! Usually in the morning. We have 2 cats but know it is the persian as he's done it in front of us! They each have their own litterbox and no changes have been made. Same boxes, same litter. We live in a 4 level split and the boxes are down in the 4th level. Maybe he's gotten lazy and it's too far to go?? These boxes are cleaned daily & he still uses it. A year ago, we found a large spot behind the big screen TV where he was going for quite some time. Unfortunately we didn't know until it nearly stunk us out of the house. We had it cleaned several times to get rid of the odor, but still continue to block him from going back there. My huband thinks he's just a dirty cat that will never change and wants to give him away but I can't do that, I need to solve this problem. He gets lots of love so I don't know why he would have such an attitude if that's the problem. Please help.

Take him to a vet to make sure that he doesn't have a UTI/urinary tract infection which can make cats stop using their box.
If thats clear then there are some other things you can try to stop this behavior.
Use Nature's Miracle to clean whereever he has pee'd. This will completely remove the smell so he won't be attracted back to the spot.
You need a litter box on each level of the house so one's always close by when he needs to go.
Get some Feliway diffusers which have a calming effect on cats and often help with litterbox issues.
The vet may have other suggestions and if the above is not successful there are anti anxiety drugs (like kitty valium) that the vet could potentially prescribe if he thinks the issue is stress related.

If he's going to the bathroom in hidden spots, sounds like he needs some privacy and/or can't make it to a box and has made his own bathroom sanctuary hidden from view. What would you do if your bathroom was so far you couldn't make it every time? Definitely add more boxes if you have that many levels. I'd say you need at least one box on each level. Since he's already chosen a spot behind your TV, you must put one there. And if you hesitate about adding boxes, it's a lot easier to clean those rather than scrubbing your carpet.
As for going on your leather couch, I had a cat growing up that used to pee on anything leather. We never left our leather jackets on the floor, or else we'd discover a puddle, and my mom said it was a reason to not own leather furniture. The vet said it was the cat was trying to cover up the smell of the leather, because to them it's another animal.
