Jimbo

11 month old kitten fell off 4th floor balcony. Has distended stomach and difficulty peeing. No fractures and bladders ok

120 characters was too short to complete my question...but my kitten fell off the blacony and is now having difficulty urinating and has a very swollen abdomnial area. The dr. who looked at him said it wasnt an obstruction and could just be from the fall and that he is trying to pee freqeuently because of the swelleing and it should resolve on its own...I want to get a 2nd opinion on what the cause might be for this... THanks!
Dee

Go to another vet for a second opinion.

No one here will be able to help you, since we cannot see your kitten and none of us are vets. Find another vet in town to go to just in case.

Xena

Xena fell off my roof (only a 1 level house) and got some bruising on her side/stomach and also developed cystitis from the fall/fright. Jimbo may have the same issue with cystitis which makes them pee really frequently but in tiny amounts as their bladder can't fill up. It's painful and they look like they are straining. The vet told me that the only way to know for sure if there was any internal damage with her urinary tract was to make sure she was peeing so watch Jimbo to make sure at least some urine is coming out or he may have a blockage.

What really worries me is the swollen abdomen though as that could be from internal bleeding etc from the fall. Was it like that when the 1st vet saw him? I'd find an emergency vet and take him there ASAP today to get a second opinion (with a different vet). If they find his bladder is full they can empty it and decide if he has a blockage. If it's empty giving him fluids will help him get over the cystitis.

Hope he's OK.

Mr. Fez (Angel Dreamboat #25)

I agree - get a second opinion! See if there is an after hours emergency clinic in your area. Purring that his is okay!
