Most rescued cats enjoy the indoor life. They live longer and are protected from an array of dangers. But if you choose to let your cat outside, there are some things you can do to keep him safe.
ID him. Use either a tag or microchip to identify your cat.
Give him a fighting chance. Make sure your cat is fully vaccinated and protected from both internal and external parasites (see Vaccinations and Common Problems sections).
Be aware. There are a lot of dangers out there, including cars, poisons, other animals and disease, not to mention your cat could get lost or be stolen. Understand the environment outside your house before you decide to let your cat out.
